The operation of a BS5163 gate valve involves raising or lowering a gate or wedge inside the valve body to control the flow of water. When fully closed, the gate creates a tight seal against the resilient seat, preventing the passage of water. Opening the valve raises the gate, allowing water to flow through the pipeline.
